Essie: After Sex

What a great name for a nail polish lol. As I've said before, I generally don't do reds, but there are some exceptions and this is one of them. After sex is a glowy, shimmery red with pink undertones to it. This is two coats, no topcoat (please excuse the residual glitter from my last mani):

The application on this polish was very good. It went on smooth and was opaque in two coats.

Do you have a favorite red?

Wet 'N Wild Sweet Spot Collection: CANDY CORN on the COB

Today I have another shade from the Wet 'N Wild Sweet Spot Collection. I don't really get the name on this one since candy corn is orange and yellow, but whatever. The theme is cute so I can give it a pass.

CANDY CORN is a tomato red with gold shimmer. Now, I don't generally wear reds like this because I don't like them with my skintone, but I'm a gold shimmer whore lol. Also, I've been lemming China Glaze Pin Prick and this looked to be pretty close. When I saw this at Rite Aid, I had to have it. One day when I get my hands on Pin Prick, I'll do a comparison.

Two coats, no topcoat (and I apologize for the photo quality. I was losing the sunlight and they aren't as bright as they should be).

Sunlight:

The formula on this one was pretty good, and it's pretty well pigmented so someone with skills could probably get away with one thick coat.

I'm very pleased with what I've seen of the Sweet Spot collection so far. I may have to take a trip back out to Rite Aid to get my hands on the rest of them.

More jelly goodness...Carolyn New York: Brooklyn

Brooklyn is a juicy red jelly. I absolutely love this because it's a wearable red for me. I also love it because it's highly pigmented. This is three coats, but I could have gotten away with two. No topcoat.

Shade:

The formula was near perfect. The only drawback to this polish is that by the third day, it's about three shades darker than it was on the first day. I have no idea why this happens, but it's weird.

OPI Royal Rajah Ruby

This beauty is from the OPI India Collection. I wasn't all that impressed by the collection after looking at swatches on various nail blogs, but I knew I had to have this one. For me, this was definitely the standout of the collection. It's a blackened red with red shimmer.

Two coats, no topcoat.

The formula was fantastic and I got great wear out of this. I've kept this on as long as 6 days with no chipping.

OPI Changing of the Garnet

I've said before that I don't like most reds on me. So why do I have so many of them in my stash? Weird.

Anyway, this is OPI Changing of the Garnet. This shade was part of the 2002 European Collection. It's a deep, wine colored red with gold shimmer.

Two coats, no topcoat.

The gold shimmer gives this polish kind of a glowing ember effect. That said, I don't like it. It does nothing for me and I find it more interesting looking than pretty. This one is definitely in my bottom 5 OPI polishes.

Formula-wise, it was ok. I had to thin it because of its age (I snagged it from a nail salon), but the opacity was fine.

What polishes are in your bottom 5?

OPI NYPD Beet

This shade is from the 2000 New York City Colors collection. It's aptly named, as the base is beet colored. I don't know about you, but beets were never my favorite food or color. What makes this polish gorgeous is the pink shimmer.

Three coats, no topcoat.

With flash

The formula was near perfect (after thinning, of course). I could have gotten away with two coats, but I detected some light spots so I did a third for good measure. This is one of the polishes I got on my nail salon ambush, and it was well worth the haggling.

OPI 20 Candles on My Cake

I said in an earlier post that I don't like most reds on me. Well, this would be the second exception (the first was Orly Glam). 20 Candles is my absolute favorite red of all reds ever. In life. It's from OPI's Classic Collection. It's a dusty red creme with brown undertones. It almost leans toward dark pink. It's fabulous.

Two coats, no topcoat.

The formula was pretty close to perfect. The only drawback was that I needed three coats to get it completely even on the nail. With two, I could still see very faint light areas on my nail. I'm sure it was unnoticeable to most people, but you know how we polish fanatics are.

Happy painting!

Old NsOTD (cont.)

China Glaze Wagon Trail

This was my absolute favorite polish from the Rodeo Diva collection. WT has a black base with tons of fine gold shimmer. What's great about it is that the gold shimmer makes it look olive green. Absolutely gorgeous!

China Glaze DV8

Turquoise holo. Two coats, Seche Vite on top. For some reason, this was chippy on me. I think I got one day out of it.

Orly Glam

Deep red jelly with silver microglitter. This is two coats, but I probably could have used a third. Seche Vite on top.

This is actually one of my favorite reds. I don't care for most reds because I don't think they go well with my skintone, but this one has personality.
